Cardamom: The Queen of Spices from the Western Ghats

From the misty hills of Karnataka, cardamom brings an aromatic elegance that has made it the "Queen of Spices."

Cardamom, or "Elaichi" as we call it in India, is native to the Western Ghats mountain range, particularly Kerala and Karnataka. This aromatic spice has been traded for over 4,000 years and is one of the most valuable spices by weight after saffron and vanilla.

The Aromic Connection

Being based in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, we have direct access to some of the finest cardamom plantations in India. The cool, humid climate and rich soil of our region produce cardamom pods that are intensely aromatic and flavorful.

Two Types, One Excellence

We offer both green cardamom (the more common variety with a sweet, floral flavor) and black cardamom (which has a smoky, bold character). Green cardamom is perfect for desserts and chai, while black cardamom adds depth to savory dishes and curries.

Beyond the Kitchen

Cardamom isn't just for cooking. In Indian culture, it's offered as a mouth freshener after meals, used in traditional medicine (Ayurveda) for digestive health, and is a key ingredient in many wellness practices.

Storage Tips

Keep cardamom pods in an airtight container away from light and heat. For maximum flavor, buy whole pods and grind them fresh when needed. The essential oils that give cardamom its signature aroma are volatile and dissipate once ground.
